Melody Niwot is an instructor in the International Studies Major, teaching courses in the Culture and Globalization track. She has also taught Italian language and culture courses at UW-Madison as a graduate student in the Italian dept. Prior to entering academia, she lived and worked in Europe for nearly five years as trip guide for Backroads Active Travel Company as well as an assistant in a contemporary art gallery in Bologna, Italy. She later returned to the US as a scholarship coordinator and admissions officer for the American Field Service (AFS). Her current research interests include culture and identity, intercultural communication, migration, and constructions of belonging and community in national and transnational contexts.
